An increasingly popular sport, there were more and more requests made for the creation of a Dek Hockey surface to the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion. Do not think that the requests came from only one type of clientele. As France Lavoie, director of communications at the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion, explains, requests were abundant and came from both adults and minors.
The arrival of the Dek Hockey area inevitably brings organized leagues. “The surface is accessible to everyone, explains France Lavoie. However, there are also two leagues, the Association de Hockey Balle du Suroît for adults and the Vise l’Excellence league for young people. These two leagues are open to the citizens of Vaudreuil-Dorion as well as to non-residents. We are no longer taking reservations for leagues for this year. We want to leave blocks of hours available to our citizens.”
Note that the surface can be reserved on an ad hoc basis by contacting the Recreation and Culture Department of the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion.
A construction at a reasonable price
Built at a cost of $ 30,647.33 by Flex Court Canada, the surface was ordered in January 2021. The site preparation to accommodate the new surface was done by the Public Works Department. The installation was however carried out by the Flex Court Canada team at the end of May.
Dek Hockey is growing in popularity, but for obvious reasons it cannot be played outside 12 months of the year. The City of Vaudreuil-Dorion intends to use its surface during the winter period. “We will be installing fences to prevent people from accessing the surface until the ice is ready to welcome the skaters this winter”, said Mrs. Lavoie.
As for the services in place, users can fill up with water at the Pavillon Normand Desjardins where sanitary services are also available to players. A chemical toilet is also accessible.
