As if the food bank teams weren’t under enough strain, the Moisson Sud-Ouest team is faced with a deplorable situation. Two of the community organization’s three trucks were vandalized.

There is no doubt that some people show a clear lack of empathy. Some do not hesitate to commit crimes against those whose mission is to make a difference. Between late Saturday afternoon November 28th and Monday November 30th , the trucks of the Moisson Sud-Ouest organization were vandalized.
“Two of our three trucks were vandalized, explains Geneviève St-Jacques Thériault, Director of Philantropic Development at Moisson Sud-Ouest. It was an employee who noticed the situation. This is considerable for us as we have to continue our operations despite everything as we face an increase in requests.”
The cost of the mischief will be a few thousand dollars. The power wires of the first vandalized truck were severed and the two batteries stolen. As for the second vehicle affected, the wires were cut, but the batteries remained in place.
Replacement
The management of the food bank had to adjust to the situation. However, the alternative also complicates the reality. “We rented two trucks, says Mrs. St-Jacques Thériault. But, these are not refrigerated. So, we proceeded to reorganize our roads so that the food that must be refrigerated quickly go to our warehouse. We want to get our trucks back as quickly as possible.”
This is not the first time that Moisson Sud-Ouest has been the victim of vandalism. At this time last year, it was the catalysts in the trucks that thieves tried to steal. Although the thugs failed to do so, they did $ 4,000 in damage.
The management of Moisson Sud-Ouest mentions that the trucks will no longer be stored at the Webb Street building in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield. “We have a warehouse in Beauharnois, says Moisson Sud-Ouest general manager Stéphane Spisak. At this location we have a fenced yard and camera service. So we no longer have a choice. This will complicate our procedure a bit, but we want to prevent this kind of situation from happening again.”
