Soon after the polls closed, the results of the municipal election began to be displayed on the giant screen installed in the Gaétan-Rousse building. There, the mayor of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Miguel Lemieux, who was re-elected without opposition, was closely monitoring the announcement of the results.
Normand Amesse
The results in the district of Saint-Timothée were quickly revealed. From the opening of the first ballot box, incumbent councillor Normand Amesse had a comfortable lead over his rival, Normand Bourget. The trend continued and finally Mr. Amesse ended the evening with a victory by 748 votes, for a percentage of 81.01% of the vote.
Jean-Marc Rochon
The biggest lead is the case of incumbent councillor in the Georges-Leduc district, Jean-Marc Rochon. The latter received the confidence of 82.37% of the voters who went to the polls. In his speech following his victory, Mr. Rochon thanked the voters and subsequently became emotional. Jean-Marc Rochon underlined the importance his mother has for him, her indescribable support during the election campaigns and that the latter is in her last moments of life.
Sophie Sirois-Perras
The district of La Baie is one of two districts in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield whose incumbent candidate announced his retirement from politics. So, it was obvious that a fight was to be expected in this district. After a frantic campaign, voters in the area brought Sophie Sirois-Perras to power. The latter won the confidence of 63.8% of voters by defeating François Labossière at the same time.
Stephane Leduc
The only district with a four-candidate fight, the district of Nitro passed into the hands of Stéphane Leduc by a lead of 102 votes.
Saying that he is feverish and determined to represent the citizens of his district well, Mr. Leduc thanked his entire team for the work accomplished.
France Chenail
In the Champlain district, the incumbent councillor, France Chenail was re-elected with a majority of 540 votes against Robert Savard. Mrs. Chenail, who is excessively involved in the community, ensures that she intends to continue the work started and that she is available to her citizens from day one of her next mandate.
A couple at the council table
For the first time in 150 years, a couple will sit at the municipal council table in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield. Indeed, France Chenail, municipal councillor of the Champlain district and Stéphane Leduc, municipal councillor in the district of Nitro have been a couple for nearly three decades. “We each campaigned on our own, explains Mrs. Chenail. It will be the same at the council table. Everyone will have their say. We have a lot of love for one another and it is not to be assumed that our discussions related to the city will continue at home. What is discussed at City Hall will remain at City Hall.”
A joint council
This is the first time in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield that the municipal council will have three councillors. France Chenail, Sophie Sirois-Perras and Lyne Lefebvre, who was re-elected without opposition, complete a council which is composed of renewal and stability.
