In order to reduce the tax burden on its taxpayers, the City of Rigaud has just reduced its interest rate to 0% on municipal taxes and property transfer fees until September 30th , 2021.
The municipal council of the City of Rigaud wishes to make a difference in the lives of its citizens. Consequently, during the council meeting of April 13th , elected officials unanimously adopted a resolution decreeing the reduction of the interest rate to 0% on municipal taxes and property transfer fees for the period of January 1st and September 30th , 2021.
Simon St-Michel, director of communications and community relations at the City of Rigaud, explains that each year, some citizens experience certain difficulties in paying their tax bill in full. “I don’t have the exact figure, but there are overdue tax bills every year,” says Mr. St-Michel. The same goes for the transfer fees, more commonly known as the welcome tax.”
For now, the measure will end on September 30th. However, the City of Rigaud is advising citizens that the situation will be reassessed in order to know whether this measure will be extended or not, depending on the level of progress of the fight against COVID-19.
