The outgoing MP for Vaudreuil-Soulanges, Peter Schiefke is ready for the election campaign. The man seeking a third term says he can count on a team of volunteers and supporters that continues to grow.
The vote is scheduled for September 20th . Inevitably, the coming weeks will be filled with visits and phone calls. Mr. Schiefke says he will take the opportunity to speak with the public about the work he and the Liberal government have done over the past five and a half years, in particular in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr. Schiefke is proud of the work undertaken to help build a stronger, cleaner community for the seniors, families and children who call Vaudreuil-Soulanges home, but he knows there is still a lot of work to be done.
“I think the key to the success of an MP is to never be fully satisfied with what you have done, and to always look for ways to do better, and to be better for your community, said the outgoing MP. This has been my mantra, and that of my team, since we took office in 2015. A good example of this is the work underway to protect mont Rigaud. When we obtained federal funding to protect 46 hectares of mont Rigaud in 2018, we didn’t stop there. We worked to secure funding for another 53 hectares last April, with hopefully even more in the future. The work continues, and I want to continue doing this work on behalf of our community.”
In addition to serving as the Liberal MP for Vaudreuil-Soulanges, Prime Minister Trudeau appointed Peter Schiefke Parliamentary Secretary for four key portfolios, including Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister for Youth, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Border Security and Organized Crime Reduction, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change and, more recently, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship.
“The next few weeks will be quite similar to how I have spent every summer since 2015, knocking on doors, making calls, visiting our local businesses and looking for innovative ways to connect with members of our Vaudreuil-Soulanges community. It is an imperative part of my job that allows me to always be aware of the needs of our community. I also look forward to sharing what our Liberal government has done to support Canadians during this unprecedented health and economic crisis, the progress we have made in delivering on the promises we made to Canadians in 2019, and to listen to the ways in which I can better serve our community in the years to come.”
