The Premier of Quebec François Legault confirmed on Monday, September 28th , that three regions of Quebec are in the red zone. Among these regions, we find the Montreal Metropolitan Community. Being part of it: Vaudreuil-Dorion, L’Île-Perrot, Notre-Dame-de-l’Île-Perrot, Pincourt, Terrasse-Vaudreuil, Pointe-des-Cascades, Les Cèdres, L’Île-Cadieux, Saint- Lazare, Hudson, Vaudreuil-sur-le-Lac, Mercier, Châteauguay, Léry and Beauharnois.
The premier of Quebec has announced that this change, which comes into effect on October 1st , is scheduled for the next 28 days. The consequences are significant. It is about the closure of bars, casinos, dining rooms, cinemas, theaters, museums and libraries. In addition, gatherings are prohibited.
Despite the fact that several closings occur, the schools remain open. François Legault ensures that the closure of schools is not an option. “Children need to socialize and go to class, says Legault. It is important that schools remain open.”
Masked demonstrations
Now people who wish to oppose sanitary measures will have to demonstrate while wearing masks. This is what François Legault announced in his press briefing.
“We have to make an effort for the next 28 days. I have no doubt that we can do it. There must be no gatherings. They are prohibited. We don’t want them. These are places of contamination”, says the Premier of Quebec.
The mayor of Vaudreuil-Dorion is furious
The mayor of Vaudreuil-Dorion, Guy Pilon does not hide it. He is disappointed with the Prime Minister’s announcement. “To be polite, I’m going to use the term disappointed, said the mayor of Vaudreuil-Dorion. I made representations to demonstrate that we did not have to be included in the red zone. Elsewhere in Quebec it is confined by RCM and it is the opposite in our case. Salaberry-de-Valleyfield has three times as many cases as Vaudreuil-Dorion and nothing happened. The figures do not justify Vaudreuil-Dorion being in the red zone.”
For her part, Marie-Claude Nichols, MP for Vaudreuil, wonders. She has difficulty understanding the government’s decision to include towns and municipalities in her county.
“There is a prejudice, says MP Nichols. It is illogical to apply it to MMC. When there was the first containment, the government confined by RCM. The government had time to prepare for the arrival of the second wave, but clearly it was not ready. I don’t want to throw tomatoes at anyone, but the government hasn’t done its job. I wonder what Quebec intends to do to respect the announced instructions.”
