The Montérégie West Community Network is considered an essential service and we are happy to be able to continue to connect the English-Speaking population with health and social service support throughout the Pandemic. The MWCN Wellness Center located at 72 Dalhousie, Suite 201 in Huntingdon is keeping busy by connecting each week by email, visiting homes with goodie bags and opening our center to activities, all helping to reduce isolation.
Conversation Café – MWCN Volunteer and board member, Don Rosenbaum, hosts a café each Wednesday morning from 9:30am to noon. Community are invited in to discuss topics of interest to the group. Don also works with our partner, the Community Health Education Program (CHEP) McGill Hospital, to showcase their monthly health talks by Zoom. For the people who are not connected to technology, Don offers a place to get together to participate. The September health talk is: Taking Care of your Mental Health & Emotional Resilience During the Pandemic. This is a Community Health and Social Service Network initiative funded through Health Canada’s Official Language Health Contribution Program and MWCN is proud to be a partner within all three of its centers.
Chair Yoga – With Covid-19 ending our chair yoga session mid way through March, MWCN was forced to think outside the box as to how we could continue with this in the future. After connecting with the Huntingdon Agricultural Society, we were able to develop a partnership which lent us a building with a large space and to continue. We finished our first session and it has been so popular that we have started a new 4-week session with a full class.
This Pandemic has forced many of us to change our way of thinking, but this shouldn’t hold us back, it just challenges us to become more innovative while still being safe. All activities inside and outside of the center adhere by the Covid-19 guidelines. The health and safety of our members and the community is our first concern.
