This municipal achievement marks the final touch of the revitalization of the centre of the corporate sector; a city block bringing together the hospital, the Cégep, the courthouse and the town hall. This project ended very recently with the installation of the last pieces of furniture and the finalization of the landscaping details.
This upgrade of Salaberry Park was essential in order to restore its luster and increase its attractiveness. In the center, on the pavement, are circular benches and a small stage where various events can be held. The new decorative lighting system and sound system provide a most pleasant atmosphere, especially in winter for skaters. The banquet-style picnic table seats up to 30 people and the ping-pong table adds new interest to the venue. Finally, a garage space has been attached to the park chalet to store the maintenance equipment for the ice rink. The Rousseau-Lefebvre firm, specializing in landscape architecture, has created a noble, festive and modern atmosphere.
Moreover, the furniture has been imagined and designed for the park in order to give it relief.
Also, the addition of 25 trees around the trails accentuates the rectangular shape of the park and gives it back the “square” aspect of the time. Remember that the trails were designed in the image of the Union Jack flag, according to the wishes of the citizen who had offered this land to the City. Some dead trees were intentionally left behind, as a tree of life, since animals nest there.
Valspec is presenting its first cultural activity on September 17th at Salaberry Park. In fact, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., visitors will have the opportunity to meet funny and endearing characters, namely the circus artists of Flip Fabrique with the tour of the 400 coups. One more reason to visit this magnificent park located in downtown Salaberry-de-Valleyfield.
