The City of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue (SADB) is proud to commit to its seniors by initiating a process as part of the Age-Friendly Municipality (MADA) program.

Last December, a steering committee was set-up. Its mandate is to carry out this promising project, which is in place in more than 967 municipalities and RCMs in 17 regions of Quebec.

MADA aims to promote the development of a culture of social inclusion, regardless of the age or abilities of the targeted individuals, in addition to encouraging the active aging of seniors within their community. To achieve this, the Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue steering committee has already collected data on the aging of the city’s residents, in addition to identifying the services and programs already available.

The senior citizens of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue will soon be invited to participate in the consultation by completing a survey, which will be announced at a later date.

Paola Hawa, mayor of SADB ensures that seniors occupy a special place in the concerns of elected officials on the City Council. “We recognize the contribution of these residents to our community and we are sensitive to their well-being. In this sense, the MADA program joins the efforts already put in place by the city to ensure the quality of life of all its citizens”, explains Mrs. Hawa.

Once the consultations are complete, the data will guide the committee in the development of a municipal policy for seniors and an action plan to promote active aging. This plan will have a minimum duration of three years and a committee will be set up to monitor its implementation.

Finally, the City of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue wishes to thank the Government of Quebec and to highlight the financial assistance of $12,000 granted to carry out this initiative.
