Residents of the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion have expressed their dissatisfaction with the new bus shelters at the Vaudreuil-Dorion station. The spaces between the walls and the roof as well as the entrance opening mean that the shelter is not practical when exposed to the elements.
Maurice Coutu is a resident of Vaudreuil-Dorion. He accompanies his wife to the train station every day in order for her to get to work by public transport. He noticed that since the installation of the new bus shelters from the transport company Exo, that the users have no place to take refuge during bad weather.
“I find it is unfortunate, explains Mr. Coutu. Exo has spent a lot of money to update the station and make it more user-friendly. However, the design of the new bus shelters does not protect users from rain, wind and snow.”
He says it’s not uncommon to see snow on the benches inside the shelter after a storm or for the benches to be wet after it rains. The resident expects more from the transportation company and does not understand why the problem has not yet been resolved. He ended by pointing out that the new facilities have been in place since November and that nothing has changed in 3 months.
Aware of the situation
The issue has been reported directly to Exo who says the situation has been well known since November. The company explains that complaints have been made since the installation of the bus shelters and that the process to correct the situation has been initiated.
“We understand that users are frustrated by the situation, says Catherine Maurice, spokesperson for Exo. Our contractor is aware that he will have to make modifications to the bus shelters. However, he cannot make these changes in the winter. He will have to wait for the milder spring weather.”
Exo assures that the situation will be corrected as soon as the weather permits and that the cleaning teams will closely monitor the conditions of the bus shelters in the meantime.
