Thursday, October 1st was National Seniors Day and MWCN wanted to celebrate all the wonderful seniors throughout their organizations and within their communities.
As we serve three regions, Chateauguay, Vaudreuil-Soulanges and Haut-Saint-Laurent (Chateauguay Valley), each region had their own celebration ideas.
In the Valley and with Chateauguay, a visit to Blairs Orchard was organized with a free lunch for the first 40 people to sign up. In Vaudreuil-Soulanges, a visit to Quinn Farms in Ile Perrot was also organized with 10 seniors registered.
Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 restrictions tightening, we felt it would be better to cancel such large gatherings. Instead, Executive Director, Pauline Wiedow came up with the idea to purchase bags of apples for each participant and have them personally delivered.
Some MWCN coordinators Merlin Halliday, MWCN Board Member and his wife, Sandra drove to each participant’s address and dropped off apples. Participants were able to choose their favorite kind of apple, between Cortland or MacIntoch.
Each region also had Senior Day gift bags that were to be raffled off at these events. MWCN drew names at their offices and each winner was delivered their bags personally.
Congratulations to Annemarie Menesi, Hazel Lapointe, Nancy Saunders, Raymond Caza, Josie Delzingaro and Georges Bujold. All recipients were very happy to receive their visit and the bags.
“The art of life lies in a constant adjustment to our surroundings” Kakuzo Okakura, The Book of Tea MWCN was happy, even under unforeseen circumstances, to be able to acknowledge seniors on this special day and bring smiles to peoples faces, something that is dearly needed through these trying times.
