It has now been a year and a half since the pandemic started, and we are finally in the green zone! Throughout the last few months, our members at MWCN have expressed their need to get out and see each other. In early May we slowly started introducing activities outside.

At the Châteauguay office we have been doing an activity each day outside to help reduce the risks of isolation amongst our members. On Mondays, we have our “Happy Laps” group! This group meets every week for an hour and a half at a local field to walk the laps. This group started meeting in May, and we now have 12-16 women who meet and get their daily dose of exercise. We respect all the guidelines, as the women separate in clusters of 4-6 and they keep their distance from one another.
On Tuesday mornings we have our Yoga in the park, which is in the back of our Châteauguay office. We have an instructor teaching the class, and we have 10 women who benefit from this program. The yoga program teaches the ladies breathing techniques, stretches, and coping mechanisms. Yoga is one of the best programs to have, especially after a year long pandemic.
Wednesday mornings, we have our Zumba class, and it is also located in the park. This class gives the ladies a chance to listen to music, get exercise and learn a few new dance moves. At the end of each class, the ladies also do line dancing to make it that much more interesting!
In the upcoming summer months and early fall we are scheduling other outside activities that will encourage more of our members to attend!
The feedback from these programs has been nothing but positive! We have noticed that the members come to the activities not only for the program, but for the chance to see other people, to be able to laugh with one another and lastly to enjoy the fresh air! MWCN is there to always think of more adapted and creative programs that best fits the needs of our membership.
