According to the Canadian Encyclopedia, the First World War, 1914-1918 was the bloodiest conflict in the history of the country. During this war, nearly 61,000 Canadians perished in action.
The VIVA MÉDIA team browsed the Canadian Virtual War Memorial register to identify the soldiers from Vaudreuil-Soulanges, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Beauharnois and Haut-St-Laurent, who died in service.

Son of Moïse Roy and Marguerite Primeau, of Valleyfield. He is the brother of Émile and Dalvida Roy, who also served in the First World War. According to the information available in the register of soldiers who died in combat, he, like his brother Émile, lost his life on September 17, 1916. He was then 26 years old.

Son of Moïse De Bellefeuille and Marie Lefebvre, of Ste-Marthe-de-Vaudreuil. He was the husband of Marie-Anna Gauthier. The couple had been married since 1908. Note that De Bellefeuille was the father of two boys from a previous marriage. He enlisted in Montreal in 1916.
Died April 21, 1918, at the age of 37.

Originally from Rigaud, he is the son of Adjutor Marcotte and Marie-Louise Lépine. He is also the husband of Cécile Lalonde and the father of Henri and Simone.

Buried in France. Interestingly, his real name is Alderic Marcotte, but he served under the name Arthur Mercier.

Died August 12, 1918, at the age of 22.
