“Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much” – Helen Keller

The Montérégie West Community Network (MWCN), in collaboration with the Heritage Treasures Museum, and with contributions from community members are producing a heritage book about the community with funding provided by Canadian Heritage Grant. This book will give us the opportunity to share recipes, family traditions, valley traditions, cooking tips & tricks, pictures, and different historical facts from the vicinity. We think it is a great opportunity for the younger generation to learn a little bit about where they come from, how things were done in the past and hopefully get a new recipe. For the Older generation it is an opportunity to share some of their wisdom, past experiences, and some great cooking tips. COVID-19 has been very unpleasant for everyone, and we feel that providing this little reprieve from the current situation will go a long way for many people.
Another aspect of the project that we have started to implement is that of traditional board games for elementary students. MWCN has bought multiple sets of classic board games, Crokinole, Chess, and Cribbage, that will be going to three elementary schools across the area. The first set has already been delivered, with the second and third right around the corner. The board games are a fun way for the children to learn a little bit about the past and gain some appreciation for the classics!
Helen Keller had it right, working together accomplishes so much more and we are truly blessed to have such a dedicated community, who want to preserve and cherish our unique piece of the world!
