The Concertation Horizon organization announces that it is contributing to the implementation of four projects aimed at fighting poverty in Montérégie.
For the resource, the goal is to improve accessibility to healthy food and promote educational success in the RCMs of western Montérégie. These projects are made possible thanks to a financial support of $ 541,279 from the Fonds Québécois d’initiatives sociales (FQIS) within the framework of the Alliance for Solidarity, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Solidarity (MTESS) and the Table de concertation régionale de la Montérégie (TCRM).
By 2023, Concertation Horizon will have an amount of $ 2.5 million for the regions of the Beauharnois-Salaberry, Haut-Saint-Laurent, Jardins-de-Napierville, Roussillon and Vaudreuil-Soulanges RCMs. The projects supported are a response to the priorities that Concertation Horizon has put forward.
The Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Solidarity, Jean Boulet, believes that these projects are concrete proof of the region’s efforts to fight poverty and social exclusion and to benefit citizens. It also highlights the work of organizations in the western Montérégie which go above and beyond to find innovative solutions with regard to food security and academic success.
For his part, the prefect of the RCM de Roussillon, mayor of the City of Delson and president of Concertation Horizon, Christian Ouellette, is proud to support projects in the communities of the region.
“These projects, which are developing in the context of a global health crisis, take on even more meaning today, said Mr. Ouellette. They emanate from the collective desire of local stakeholders to reduce social inequalities and provide the population of the five RCMs in western Montérégie with a better quality of life. ”
Subsidized projects
Projet collectif de récupération des surplus alimentaires
Led by the Centre d’action bénévole Soulanges, the project aims to make food accessible, at affordable or no cost, by contributing to the supply of food security organizations, by improving the nutritional quality of food available for food aid and by developing a network of points of sale in food wastelands.
Cultivons Châteauguay
Cultivons Châteauguay is a grouping of organizations and citizens who work together to help create a healthier, local and eco-responsible food system. The group maintains its own separate production gardens that supply a mobile kiosk, offering its fruits and vegetables at a reasonable price, including moving to areas where food insecurity is most acute. This project will help maintain production by increasing the distribution of food produced during the summer season in more key points in the territory and improving accessibility to community refrigerators, in partnership with local organizations and food banks.
Escouade-relance alimentaire sud-ouest
The pandemic situation has resulted in increased demands for food aid for organizations served by Moisson Sud-Ouest. To promote recovery, closer ties with local organizations are necessary to better understand needs and coordinate services. This project, carried out in conjunction with organizations, aims to strengthen the distribution service, establish a healthy food delivery system in order to support organizations and make food more accessible.
