Video game lover: at your controls. The City of Vaudreuil-Dorion is holding its first Esport tournament.
The City of Vaudreuil-Dorion invites citizens to register for its very first Esports tournament, which will take place on August 1st at 11 a.m. and whose grand finale will take place on the giant screen of the ephemeral cinema-park on Cité-des-Jeunes campus at 9 p.m. Participants will compete in the NHL’20 game on the PS4 console.
For the occasion, teams of three people will be formed, but each participant must first register. Players without a team will be matched with other participants. The event is aimed at all citizens aged 12 and over. To register, simply go to the City’s website as of July 14th. The citizen card is required to proceed with registration, which costs $ 5 per person or $ 10 including access to the drive-in evening to attend the final. Online payment is suggested, however, it is also possible to pay cash with the Recreation and Culture Department.
For the mayor of Vaudreuil-Dorion, Guy Pilon, it is obvious that this type of event will excite interest. “We were wondering how to reach our young people, for whom the past few months have been extremely difficult. We know that many love video games. The equipment set up for the cinema allowed us to organize a major event with this tournament. We believe that the activity should interest our teenage citizens, but also adults,” said Mr. Pilon.
The competition will be held at the library. “The library is a living environment where young people like to meet with friends to enjoy LAB digital material or play video games in the Teen Space, among other things. The habits of our users have been turned upside down with our new reality, underlines Annick Lemay, head of the library division. We are happy to offer them the opportunity to meet for a virtual tournament, and for which the finals will be out of the ordinary.”
The four finalist teams, who will compete on the giant screen of the drive-in, will win an award. In case of rain, the final will be postponed to August 2nd.
