L’Appui Montérégie organization, specializing in the support and training of caregivers for seniors, is launching its pathway and support guide for caregivers (GPS). Essential guide for the Vaudreuil-Soulages region, which has more than 14,000 caregivers.
L’Appui Montérégie, which was founded in 2009, aims to support caregivers for seniors with a number of resources. Among other things, it organizes face-to-face support groups so that caregivers can share their experience. Since the start of the pandemic, these support groups have turned into Zoom meetings or phone calls.
“The spring confinement allowed us to create support and monitoring tools for our members, said Sonia Lessard, director of L’Appui Montérégie. It’s easier to go back to that now that we’re in the red zone than in the spring when we had to start from scratch. ”
The GPS guide, for its part, was launched to meet a need among caregivers in the region. The city of Laval already had its own guide, but the completely different reality of Montérégie prompted Mrs. Lessard to create one specific to the region. The guide contains a number of tools, practical tips and resources that caregivers can use. The digital version has, for example, a tips section where the 8 significant steps in the trajectory of a caregiver are found. Documentation is also present in the guide via hyperlinks.
In addition to this, L’Appui Montérégie is associated with several organizations in the region such as the Centre d’action bénévole Soulanges et Centre d’action bénévole Valleyfield. The organization is also present throughout the Montérégie in partnership with organizations. The list of associated organizations can be found in the caregiver guide.
The guide is available on the L’Appui Montérégie website and in hard copy from partner organizations who have wanted to take a few copies.
“The best way to take advantage of the guide is to consult it on the Internet, explains Mrs. Lessard. The resources are at hand and with the simplicity of the guide, it is very easy to navigate. ”
