Bridge may reopen ahead of schedule
Repairs are going well to the Montée Cadieux overpass in Vaudreuil-Dorion and Transport Quebec officials say if the weather cooperates, the road may be reopened ahead of schedule, possibly by the end of July. According to Transport Quebec spokesperson Stéphanie Langelier, a concrete curing process took place last weekend. “If temperatures are mild, the reopening of the bridge could be accelerated,” Langelier said. The road and an overpass that traverses Highway 40 have been closed since early May after Transport Quebec engineers determined the bridge was not structurally sound. A 15 km long detour has forced drivers to take a lengthy and often frustrating alternate route since the thoroughfare was closed. Close to 200 motorists used the overpass that was built in 1965 on a daily basis. Officials say this is the first time the overpass has been completely closed to traffic. Cyclists and pedestrians have been permitted to use the road and overpass during the closure. The transportation ministry says it will notify drivers as soon as the repairs are complete and the road is open.
