The 12th edition of the Public markets week in Quebec, an initiative of the Association des marchés publics du Québec (AMPQ), will take place from August 6th to 16th.
On the theme of food self-sufficiency, the 2020 edition is an opportunity for gourmet tourism and to source locally from the five markets in Montérégie-Ouest for healthy and sustainable food. For the occasion, the public markets of Montérégie-Ouest invite you to come and meet producers by visiting one of the region’s markets:
• Marché des jardiniers de LaPrairie (Roussillon RCM);
• Marché public de Salaberry-de-Valleyfield (Beauharnois-Salaberry RCM).
• Marché bio-local de Candiac (Roussillon RCM);
• Marché fermier de Huntingdon (Haut-Saint-Laurent RCM);
• Marché des saveurs de L’Île-Perrot (Vaudreuil-Soulanges RCM);
For a 4th edition, Julie Aubé, renowned author and nutritionist, will be the national spokes-person for the Public markets week in Quebec. Embodying the values of local purchasing and agritourism, she will promote a whole new reflection this year, that of food autonomy. Video content and inspiration sheets will be shared with the community to learn how to transform and preserve regional products to eat locally 12 months a year.
For local agriculture
The Public markets week in Quebec is the perfect time to bring producers and consumers together around local food. “We now have more than ever a collective responsibility to source our products in Quebec and even locally through producers and public markets in our region,” said Jean-Nick Trudel, general manager of AMPQ.
