A second mural for Sophie Wilkins and Anik Favreau | VIVA MÉDIA Skip to main content

The mural, Les champs du Fleuve earlier this summer at the Halte des Villages, under the south deck of the St-Louis bridge in Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague, has aroused real enthusiasm. Thus, the RCM, sensitive to the appreciation of this masterful work of art, has given a new mandate to the two artists.

Sophie Wilkins and Anik Favreau will be able to develop their creativity, in order to also adorn the retaining wall of the cycling and pedestrian tunnel passing under the south deck of the Pont Larocque at the Halte des Plaisanciers of the Regional Park in Saint-Stanislas-de-Kostka.

Like what was unveiled at a press conference at the Halte des Villages on July 6th, the mural installed on Saint-Stanislas-de-Kostka soil under the Pont Larocque entitled “Murale des Plaisanciers” once again dazzles passers-by and has all the particularities of a work of art that is once again emblematic.

Anyone who stops to appreciate it will be impressed by its size, creativity and the color palette used. The mural illustrates several regional characteristics, in particular at the level of fauna and flora, the richness of hunting and fishing activities, strong winds allowing the practice of sailing sports, navigation, very present here the richness of bodies of water and the central landscape evoking an enchanting setting for the practice of nautical activities, including kayaking.

The artist duo is once again quite proud of the result. As Mrs. Wilkins herself says, “It’s gratifying to be able to leave an artistic and cultural legacy in an environment that has seen us be born and grow up, both being from the region. We invite the population and users of the park to take ownership of this mural and make it a place of exchange and reflection”.

“The Halte des Plaisanciers has continued to see its popularity increase over the past few years, not only among users of the Regional Park, but also with residents of Saint-Stanislas-de-Kostka. Obviously, the creation of this mural will only contribute more to the attractiveness of this recreational and leisure place”, commented Caroline Huot, Mayor of Saint-Stanislas-de-Kostka.

For the deputy prefect of the RCM and mayor of the neighboring municipality of Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague, Mr. Yves Daoust, “This is a fine example where cultural creativity can be used to benefit the identity of a region and the feeling of belonging to a territory. Thanks again to these two local artists!”
