Les Producteurs de lait du Québec (PLQ) donates 46,500 liters of milk to more than 115 organizations across the province to help in the making of Christmas baskets.
Food aid needs are always increasing at this time of year. In order to meet all demands, milk producers support Food Banks of Quebec throughout the year. In addition to donations for Christmas baskets, some 824,000 liters of milk were donated to Food Banks of Quebec by the Milk and Dairy Product donation program.
Since 2003, producers, transporters and processors in the dairy sector have come together to deliver more than 12.2 million liters of milk, in the form of various dairy products, to the most vulnerable in society.
“Les Producteurs de lait du Québec are proud to support Food Banks of Quebec in their mission to feed people in vulnerable situations across the province, by providing continuous donations of milk and dairy products. We are proud to be able to give back to society by helping each family to have enough to eat”, said the president of Les Producteurs de lait du Québec, Daniel Gobeil.
“Hunger strikes over 600,000 people in Quebec, a number that has been on the rise since the start of the Covid-19 crisis. This context of food insecurity for many Quebecers has shown us more than ever the importance of showing mutual aid and solidarity towards our community. These values are the basis of our collective marketing system, but also of the milk producers who, despite the long working hours on the farm, often volunteer to help their neighbors”, said Mr. Gobeil.
In Quebec, more than 600,000 people suffer from food insecurity, a third of whom are children. The Food Banks of Quebec network has more than 1,200 organizations that respond to 1.9 million requests for emergency food assistance per month. Donations of food or money help feed thousands of Quebecers every day. Every dollar donated helps produce and distribute the equivalent of $ 12 in food or three meals to families in need.
